Man hospitalised after incident at Morpeth Thai restaurant

A man was taken to hospital following an incident at a Thai restaurant on Newgate Street in Morpeth on Friday night, October 9.

ChronicleLive understands the man was found by another customer at the foot of stairs near to the restaurant's entrance. Emergency services were called and the patient was taken to Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI).

Staff response and discovery

A member of staff at the premises, who identified themselves as a supervisor, told ChronicleLive that the customer had collected a takeaway prior to the incident. A second customer is understood to have discovered him injured.

The supervisor said: "I just really hope that he is okay."

Ambulance service statement

The North East Ambulance Service confirmed that two crews and a clinical leader attended the scene, and that support was also requested from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), whose personnel attended by road.

An ambulance service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 9.29pm on Friday 9 October to reports of a person injured at an address on Newgate Street in Morpeth, Northumberland.

"We dispatched two ambulance crews and a clinical leader to the scene, and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) who attended by road. One patient was taken to the RVI for further treatment."

Northumbria Police have been approached for further information.
