Alexandra Walker, 25, and Harrison Simpson, 21, have been found guilty of murdering two-year-old Isabelle Rose Welsh at their home in Thornaby, near Middlesbrough. Simpson was also convicted of sexually abusing the toddler.
Abuse and delay in seeking help
Isabelle suffered 21 separate broken bones in the weeks before her death. On September 13, 2025, she sustained a massive head injury after being shaken and her head impacted against a wall or floor. Her mother delayed calling 999 for about an hour, fearing questions about the injuries. Walker's stepfather arrived and insisted she call emergency services. Paramedics took Isabelle to hospital, but she died the following day.
Evidence and trial
Prosecutor Richard Wright KC told Teesside Crown Court that the couple had been drinking and smoking cannabis the night before. The next day, Simpson was alone with Isabelle. Internal CCTV showed Walker searching online for why a toddler might bleed but doing nothing. The couple had met on Facebook Dating and Simpson moved in quickly. Walker had previously installed cameras that captured evidence of abuse, including a broken leg inflicted by Simpson.
Family tribute
Isabelle's family said she was always full of smiles and loved Peppa Pig. Her father, Josh Welsh, called her 'my princess' and said his life was shattered. Sentencing is scheduled for Thursday morning.
