Girl, 9, dies in A831 crash; two hospitalised

A nine-year-old girl has died following a crash on the A831 between Drumnadrochit and Cannich in the Highlands. The schoolgirl was a rear passenger in a Volkswagen Polo involved in a collision with a Ford Ranger and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two taken to hospital

The driver of the Polo and the front seat passenger were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment. The extent of their injuries has not been confirmed.

The crash happened at around 5.30pm on 7 October. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the scene.

Road closed for seven hours

The road was closed for seven hours to allow enquiries to be carried out.

Police Scotland Sergeant Kate Finlayson said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the girl who died, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances."

Appeal for witnesses

She added: "I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or the vehicles prior to contact us. I would also ask anyone who was in the area and who may have dashcam footage that could assist to please get in touch."
