A three-year-old girl remains in hospital with serious injuries after being struck by a car in Middlesbrough. A woman has been arrested in connection with the collision.
Collision details
The incident occurred on Byelands Street at its junction with Newstead Road. Emergency services were alerted shortly before 4:15pm on Sunday, August 2. The vehicle involved was travelling eastbound along Newstead Road from Clairville Road when the incident happened, according to Cleveland Police.
Arrest and investigation
A 36-year-old woman has been arrested and is currently being interviewed by police. An investigation into the circumstances is underway, and officers are appealing for information.
A force spokesperson said: "We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw a grey MG car or who witnessed (or caught relevant footage of) the collision itself to contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number. Please quote ref 081662."
Ambulance response
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson added: "We were called just after 4:10pm on August 2 to a road traffic collision between a car and a child on Newstead Road in Middlesbrough. We dispatched an ambulance crew and a clinical team leader who treated one patient before conveying to hospital."
