Fundraising for North Shields Fire Sole Survivor

A fundraising page has been created for the sole survivor of a tragic house fire in North Shields that claimed two lives. The blaze erupted at around 3.30am on Wednesday on Cragside Avenue, prompting a large emergency response.

Emergency Response and Casualties

Northumbria Police, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, and North East Ambulance Service attended the scene. Inside the property, responders found a woman in her 70s and a man in his 40s, both of whom were pronounced dead despite efforts to save them. A man in his 70s was also discovered inside and taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Two neighbouring properties were evacuated, and a cordon remained in place for some time after the fire was extinguished as investigators worked at the scene.

Fundraising Campaign Details

The GoFundMe page, created to support the survivor, reads: "Hi, I am trying to raise funds for a man whose house went up in flames on Wednesday morning at 3.30am, he lost his wife, aged 70, and his only son, aged 42, and every belonging he owns was destroyed."

It adds: "The family dog has since been cared for by the local vets currently in critical condition with rising vet bills. He is 79-years-old, and has lived in North Shields for all of his life. Any contributions would be greatly appreciated as all has are literally the clothes on his back, and he is still in hospital getting treatment for his injuries. Thank you for any help at all."

Police Investigation

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Barry McAtominey said: "This is an absolutely devastating incident in which two people have tragically lost their lives. All of our thoughts and condolences are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."

He continued: "Enquiries remain at a very early stage, and with the support of our partners from Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service we are determined to establish exactly what happened. We are asking anyone with information – no matter how small or insignificant it may seem – to come forward and share what they know."
