A 22-year-old man told his dad and step-mum he would "see them tomorrow" and hugged them goodbye hours before he died in a tragic road collision last month.
Cody Dobbs was the passenger on a black Kawasaki Z650 D2 motorcycle that was being ridden along the A41 Liverpool Road when it was involved in a collision in the early hours of Saturday (September 19). He was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital for treatment of his serious injuries, but sadly died just days later.
Arrest and Support
Cheshire Police say the rider of the motorcycle, a 22-year-old man, sustained minor injuries. He was initially arrested at the scene, but has since been de-arrested and is assisting officers with their enquiries into the incident.
Cody, from Northwich, worked as a chef at the Clock Tower pub. Now, Cody's step-mum Michelle Dickson and his step-sister Shannon Shuttleworth have said that the support they've received following his death shows the kind of man that he was, reports the ECHO.
Final Words
Michelle, 52, from Northwich, said: "It was a tragic accident and nobody deserves to have to bury their child. Everybody has been so kind. We even had a gentleman drive from Chester to the Clock Tower, where Cody used to work, to just drop off a card because he didn't know our address."
"Little things like that, it goes a long way. It just shows what a kind, caring, loving person he was. Everybody that Cody came into contact with, he touched their hearts in one way or another."
Michelle then recalled the final words Cody said to his family before he died, she said: "He left home on Friday evening, gave me a hug, gave his dad a hug and said, 'see you tomorrow.'"
"Then his dad got a call at 7am on the Saturday from the police. At 22 years of age, you think, 'oh, what's he been up to? Has he got in a fight?'"
"He didn't pass away on his own. He had me, his dad and his biological mum with him, but it doesn't seem real. We haven't seen him (since he died) because of the police investigation. We are due to see him this week and the funeral is a week on Thursday."
Tributes and Fundraiser
Last month, the Clock Tower dedicated a live music night to Cody where any donations made were put aside for the ICU at the Countess of Chester and a local cat sanctuary, a cause close to Cody's heart.
The family have set up a GoFundMe to pay for his memorial, as Michelle added: "It's left a massive hole in our lives. You never think it's going to happen to you, you're not prepared. Given the prices of food and cost of living, what people have put into the GoFundMe is really appreciated because I don't think there's one person out there who isn't struggling."
