Borders Buses has released dashcam footage showing two masked youths on an e-scooter riding dangerously close to the back of a bus in Hawick. The incident, captured on Tuesday, July 7, occurred at Burnfoot in the Borders town, with the scooter's front wheel within inches of the vehicle.
Dangerous Behaviour Highlighted
The bus company condemned the actions, stating that the riders could have been seriously injured if the bus had braked suddenly. A spokesperson for Borders Buses said: "This isn't clever. It's incredibly dangerous. One of our buses recently captured CCTV footage of two young people on an e-scooter travelling directly behind our bus in Burnfoot, Hawick. The footage shows just how dangerous this behaviour is."
The firm emphasized that any incident causing the bus to brake could have ended in tragedy, as there was no safe stopping distance between the scooter and the vehicle.
Call for Community Action
Borders Buses urged the public to speak with e-scooter riders about safety. The spokesperson added: "If you know someone who rides an e-scooter, please have a conversation with them. One poor decision could change lives forever." The company confirmed it is working with Police Scotland to tackle anti-social behaviour.
Police Scotland has been contacted for comment. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about e-scooter safety and anti-social behaviour on roads.
