Jodie Ramsey’s (Olivia Frances-Brown) plan to take over Shona Platt’s (Julia Goulding) life has fallen apart in Coronation Street, culminating in a gunshot that leaves Jodie wounded.
The character has been convinced for ages that she could steal David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) from Shona and, for a very long time, it looked like her plot was going to work.
Jodie’s warped obsession
‘Jodie idolises Shona so much that she literally wants to step into her shoes, take over her life and know what that feels like’, star Olivia Frances-Brown previously said, discussing Jodie Ramsey’s ‘warped’ mind. ‘By taking over David, the house, the role with Harper – she genuinely wants to know how it feels to be Shona.’
‘She loves her sister, but she wishes Shona had treated her differently throughout her life. There’s a deep need to get her own back and have some sort of revenge. As much as she cares about their relationship, she’s willing to do whatever it takes to get the happiness she feels she deserves.’
The showdown
In today’s episode, Jodie got to work impressing David. Shona was still away after spending the night in a hotel, which gave Jodie the perfect opportunity to swoop in. David admitted to Jodie that he’s been thinking a lot about the kiss they shared a few months ago, and struggled to navigate what that meant for him.
This was the green light Jodie had waited so long for. To her, this was confirmation that David wanted to be with Shona’s sister. Because she was too focused on convincing David that they should be together, Jodie failed to spot that he had hidden his phone under a towel for a very specific reason.
Gunshot and aftermath
David had called Shona, who quietly listened to Jodie speak about how much she hated her sister and how badly she wanted to be with David. Sensing that things were falling apart for her, Jodie got desperate. She pulled her gun on David and Shona, but they assumed it was fake.
Shona approached her sister and fought with her as she attempted to retrieve the gun. Everything changed when there was a loud bang. The gun had gone off. And Jodie had been shot.
What’s important to note here is that we know Jodie will be on our screens at Christmas, which means this gunshot isn’t going to kill her. The question remains whether Jodie is about to take advantage of Shona’s guilt and worm her way back into their lives.
