Sebastian Karl Griffiths, aged two, died on August 3, 2025, at his home in Bute Street, Treorchy. An inquest was opened at South Wales Central Coroners' Court into his death.

Found unresponsive in bed

The inquest heard that Sebastian was well when he went to bed the previous evening. He slept in a bedroom he shared with his siblings.

When his mother checked on him the next morning, she found him unresponsive in his bed. His parents began CPR, and police and paramedics arrived shortly after and carried out resuscitation attempts. Despite their best efforts, he was declared dead.

A pathologist has provided a provisional cause of death as unascertained.

Coroner Andrew Morse has adjourned the inquest until a date to be fixed to allow evidence to be gathered.
