A pedestrian has died after being struck by multiple vehicles, including a marked police car, on the A40 bypass in Carmarthen, Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed.
The incident occurred between the PC World roundabout and Abergwili roundabout shortly before 10pm on Tuesday, July 28. Police received an initial call reporting concern for a pedestrian on the carriageway, and while officers were en route, further calls indicated several vehicles had already collided with the person.

A marked police vehicle was among those that struck the pedestrian after arriving at the scene. The force has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC) for independent oversight.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Efforts to identify the individual and notify next of kin are ongoing.
Road closed and investigation
The A40 is expected to remain closed for much of Wednesday while officers investigate. No arrests have been made in connection with the collision.
A police spokesperson said: “Dyfed-Powys Police is investigating a six-vehicle road traffic collision, which occurred on the A40 between the PC World roundabout and Abergwili roundabout at approximately 9.50pm on Tuesday (28/7).”
The statement continued: “The force initially received a report regarding the concern for the safety of a pedestrian who was seen to be on the carriageway. Following officers being deployed, further reports then indicated that several vehicles had collided with the pedestrian prior to officers’ arrival. A marked police vehicle was also reported to have collided with the pedestrian after arriving. Tragically the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or was travelling along the A40 at the time, particularly those with dashcam footage, to contact Dyfed-Powys Police online, via social media, by calling 101, or emailing 101@dyfed-powys.police.uk, quoting reference 442 of 28/7.
