A pedestrian died after being struck by six vehicles, including a police car, on the A40 near Carmarthen last night.

Incident Details

The multi-vehicle crash took place around 9.50pm on the A40 between the Abergwili and PC World roundabouts. Officers initially received a concern for safety report for a pedestrian who was seen on the carriageway.

Further reports indicated that several vehicles had collided with the pedestrian before officers arrived at the scene. A marked police car then collided with the same pedestrian when arriving at the location.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries are ongoing to identify them and inform their next of kin.

Road Closure and Police Appeal

Carmarthen, Whitland and St Clears Police, part of Dyfed-Powys Police, said the stretch of the A40 between the two roundabouts will remain closed for a lengthy period on Wednesday while officers remain at the scene. The statement added: "We would therefore ask motorists to please avoid the area and find alternative routes."

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident. Due to the multi-vehicle crash also involving a police car, the force made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC). The force said: "It would be inappropriate for us to comment further until the IOPC has completed their assessment."

Dyfed-Powys Police is appealing for witnesses and information, particularly from motorists who were driving on the A40 at the time and may have dash cam footage. They said: "We are appealing for witnesses and information regarding this road traffic collision. We would ask that anyone with information to please make contact with us, and that any dashcam users review their footage for anything that might assist us with these inquiries."
