Emergency services are at the scene of a serious road traffic collision on Liverpool Road in Huyton after a car crashed into a lamppost in the early hours of Friday, July 24.
Police investigation underway
Merseyside Police received a report just before 2am that a black Cupra had left the road, causing damage to a lamppost on Liverpool Road. A large police cordon is in place, and several roads are closed, including Shellingford Road, Prescot Road, Liverpool Road, Somerset Road, Back Dovecot Place, Dovecot Place, Taurus Road, Turriff Road, Dinas Lane, Lordens Road, and Fincham Road.
Merseytravel announced on X: "Due to a police incident on East Prescot Road between Finch Lane and Page Moss Dovecot, Arriva service 7, 8, 9, 10, 10A & 10B are diverted via Finch Lane and Princes Drive in both directions. We currently have no timescale for this diversion."
Debris and helicopter activity
An ECHO reporter at the scene noted debris scattered across the road. The car apparently struck a lamppost on a grassy verge in the middle of Liverpool Road at the junction with Ashover Avenue. Residents were woken by a helicopter low in the area around 2am.
Members of the public are advised to avoid the area while the investigation continues.
