Three Charged After £6,000 Jellycat Theft in County Durham

Three individuals have been charged following the theft of approximately £6,000 worth of Jellycat toys from two businesses in County Durham. Durham Constabulary launched an investigation after a first incident on June 20, when £2,000 worth of Jellycats were stolen from the Coach House shop at Raby Castle.

Details of the Thefts

Staff at Raby Castle's Coach House shop quickly noticed that 51 items had been taken. The shop is known for stocking the popular plush toys. A week later, on June 27, a further £4,000 worth of Jellycats were stolen from Poplar Tree Garden Centre in Durham.

Shortly after the garden centre theft, two suspects were arrested after being stopped in a car. Further investigation by the Barnard Castle Neighbourhood Policing Team led to two more arrests in the Sunderland area, with 19 Jellycats recovered.

Charges and Court Appearance

A man and two women have been charged with theft and are scheduled to appear at Peterlee Magistrates' Court on September 14. A third woman remains under investigation but has not been charged at this time.

Durham Constabulary continues to investigate the incidents. The police have not released the names of those charged.
