Richard Hammond fined for speeding in Bentley

Richard Hammond, the former Top Gear presenter, has been fined for speeding after driving a Bentley at 98mph in a 60mph zone on the A40 in Gloucestershire.

Hammond was caught by a speed camera in October 2024. He appeared at Cheltenham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday and pleaded guilty by post.

Court outcome

The court handed Hammond a £1,200 fine and ordered him to pay £110 costs and a £120 victim surcharge. He also received eight penalty points on his licence.

Hammond, 56, said he was sorry for the offence and described it as a mistake. He added that he drives a variety of cars for work and that this was not a deliberate act of speeding.
