Callum Jaxon, 31, has been sentenced to six years in prison for grooming and sexually assaulting a vulnerable teenage girl. The court heard Jaxon sent sexualised messages to the 15-year-old complainant and sexually assaulted her after meeting her in Holyhead.
Grooming and manipulation
Caernarfon Crown Court heard Jaxon sent a series of sexualised messages to the girl in March and April last year, along with videos of himself masturbating and pictures of his penis. Laura Knightly, prosecuting, told the court Jaxon regularly discussed having sex with the girl despite knowing her age and vulnerability.
The court heard Jaxon met the girl in Holyhead after speaking to her online. On one occasion, the defendant gave the child unwanted love bites before pulling down her underwear and sexually assaulting her. Jaxon told the youngster to remove all messages between them and warned her he may get into trouble if she did not.
Discovery and arrest
The girl's mother saw some of the messages on her daughter's phone and alerted the police. Jaxon, formerly of Marron Avenue, Orford, Warrington, but now of no fixed abode, was located and arrested. In his subsequent interview, he denied all the allegations.
In a brief statement read to the court by the prosecution barrister, the victim described Jaxon as a "horrible man" and said his actions had impacted "all my life". The court also heard Jaxon has a previous conviction for child abduction, which involved a vulnerable youngster living in the care system.
Previous convictions and sentencing
Jaxon has 14 previous convictions for 35 offences, including taking a child without lawful authority, motoring matters, arson, and theft. He had previously pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual communications with a child, arranging the commission of a child sexual offence, meeting a child following sexual grooming, and sexual assault. He also pleaded guilty to the fraudulent use of a registration mark, driving with no insurance, and driving other than in accordance with a licence, offences committed in Merseyside in July last year.
John Wyn Williams, for Jaxon, said the defendant had experienced a "turbulent childhood" and has attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, depression, anxiety, and epilepsy. Judge Daniel Williams told Jaxon he had groomed and manipulated his victim into an "entirely exploitative relationship" and noted a pre-sentence report concluded the defendant poses a high risk of causing serious harm to children.
With a one-quarter discount for his guilty pleas, Jaxon was sentenced to six years in prison. He will serve half the sentence in custody before being released on licence to serve the remainder in the community. The defendant will be a registered sex offender for life and was made subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and an indefinite restraining order banning him from contacting his victim.
Police response
Speaking after the sentencing, North Wales Police detective constable Leslie Ellis said: "Jaxon groomed the victim and, despite knowing her age and vulnerability, he continued to meet her to pursue her for his own sexual gratification."
"The victim was courageous in coming forward to give her account, which has resulted in Jaxon’s sentence. We encourage all victims of sexual assault to come forward with the confidence that they will be heard and supported. Violence against women and girls will not be tolerated and remains a foremost priority for North Wales Police. We will continue to pursue those responsible and bring them to justice."
