Andy Carroll's abuser Kevin Adams branded 'monster' by daughter
Andy Carroll's abuser Kevin Adams called 'monster' by daughter

Kevin Adams, the man who sexually assaulted former England footballer Andy Carroll, has been branded a 'monster' by his own daughter, Avia Anderson. The 21-year-old said she felt 'really bad' for Carroll and described her father's actions as monstrous.

Daughter speaks out after learning of prison sentence

Adams, now 59, was sentenced to 20 months in prison in 2023 for the assault, which Carroll detailed in his autobiography, Owning It: In My Own Words. Avia told The Sun that her father did not inform her about his imprisonment, and she only recently discovered his real age, having believed he was in his 40s.

Speaking to The Sun, Avia said: 'I feel really bad for [Mr Carroll]. I just think my dad is a monster.' She added: 'As far as naming him — he's done something terrible to you so name him. If I was in that position I'd do the same.'

Family background and plans to cut ties

Avia grew up in Essex with her family. Her mother married Adams in September 2005, six months after Avia was born, and the couple split in 2011. Avia now plans to change her surname to distance herself from her father.

Carroll confirms abuser's identity

Carroll, who played for Liverpool and Newcastle, revealed in his autobiography that he was sexually assaulted by a 'male celebrity' in 2021. After Adams was named in court documents, Carroll told The Sun on Sunday: 'Now that Kevin Adams has been named in court documents as my abuser, I can confirm it. Hopefully now I can finally start to put this chapter behind me.'

He asked that people 'don't constantly share pictures of [his] abuser alongside [him]', explaining: 'I don't want to keep seeing his face or being reminded of him every time this story is spoken about. I'm ready to move forward. This had a devastating impact on my life and loved ones.'

Carroll gave evidence during Adams's trial, which he found 'humiliating and horrendous'. At the time, Judge Mary Loram condemned Adams's 'lies' after the coach claimed he had been hit for no reason when Carroll awoke mid-attack and knocked him unconscious. Adams was convicted at Chelmsford Crown Court in 2023, jailed for 20 months, placed on the sex offenders register, and banned from Carroll's village.
