A man wanted on suspicion of murdering his wife and two daughters in Bedfordshire has been arrested in Johannesburg, South African police have confirmed. Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, 45, was taken into custody in Kensington, Johannesburg, following what authorities described as an intensive operation involving Interpol, crime intelligence, and the Organised Crime Investigation Unit.
Arrest After Coordinated Operation
The South African Police Service (Saps) announced the arrest on Friday via a statement on X, crediting swift operational coordination and intelligence-led policing for tracing and apprehending the suspect. Tshuma, a British citizen of Zimbabwean heritage who also goes by the name Mark, is due to appear in court on Monday.
The bodies of Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, 42, known as Zandile, and her daughters Natalie, 15, and Nala, five, were discovered in a £1.3 million detached house in Carnoustie Drive, Great Denham, near Bedford. Concerns were raised on Monday after the family had not been seen for several days.
Details of the Incident
Bedfordshire Police had issued a warrant for Tshuma's arrest on suspicion of murder following the discovery of the bodies. The investigation led authorities to South Africa, where the Saps Interpol National Central Bureau collaborated with local units to locate him. The exact cause of death has not been disclosed pending further forensic examinations.
The property in Great Denham is a modern detached house in a quiet residential area. Neighbours expressed shock at the tragedy, describing the family as quiet and private. Police have not released further details about the circumstances leading to the deaths.
Legal Proceedings Ahead
Tshuma's court appearance on Monday will be closely watched, as extradition proceedings may follow. The UK's National Crime Agency is likely to liaise with South African authorities to secure his return to Britain to face charges.
