Two men have died after they fell into an industrial silage tank at a Cheshire farm. The farm workers, aged 42 and 72, fell into the slurry tank in Aston by Budworth, near Northwich, at around 12.00pm on Wednesday, according to police.
Officers from Cheshire Police, firefighters and paramedics were called to the farm on Cann Lane. Multiple emergency vehicles were seen in the area following the incident. They removed both men from the tank, but they were pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation launched
Police say they were called at 12.08pm and an investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. The men’s next of kin have been informed.
The road was closed while emergency services attended the scene. The force said various ambulance resources were dispatched to the scene.
HSE involvement
The UK’s workplace safety regulator, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), said its inspectors had visited the farm on Wednesday and that it was liaising with Cheshire Police. Metro has contacted the North West Ambulance Service for comment.
