An 18-year-old woman who died after falling ill at a music festival in North Wales has been remembered as intelligent, humorous, and compassionate. Lucy Halpin passed away following a medical emergency at the Tonnau Festival on Anglesey in the early hours of 11 July.
Festival Cancelled After Incident
The festival was cancelled after Lucy's death. North Wales Police confirmed they are treating her passing as unexpected, and investigations into the circumstances are ongoing.
Colleagues at The Breeze Hill Bar, Eatery and Hotel, where Lucy worked, expressed their grief. In a statement, the pub said: "It has been a very sad week at The Breeze Hill. A broken pub full of broken hearts. Our wonderful Lucy was taken away from us last Friday, just a few weeks following her 18th Birthday."
Fundraising Campaign Launched
A fundraising campaign has been set up by Lucy's friends to support her family. They wrote: "Anyone who knew Lucy would know she was kind, caring and a good friend. Everyone around her knew how bright and funny she was. She lit up every room she walked into and put a smile on everyone's face without fail."
The group described her as having been "tragically taken away from us too soon" after the incident at Tonnau Festival. "She will be carried in all our lives with love and will be deeply missed," they added.
Police Statement
A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a woman has sadly died at a festival in Llanfaethlu, Anglesey. Emergency Services attended Tonnau festival at Carreglwyd Estate at around 1.45am on July 11 following reports of a medical emergency. Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, sadly, the 18-year-old woman later died in hospital. The death is being treated as unexpected whilst investigations are ongoing and the coroner has been informed."
Detective Inspector Iolo Edwards commented: "Our thoughts remain with the woman's family and loved ones at this difficult time. We urge members of the public not to speculate on the circumstances of the death, and anybody with information that could assist our enquiries should contact us via our website or by calling 101, quoting reference O110259."
Festival Organisers' Response
Tonnau Festival, held at Carreglwyd Estate in Llanfaethlu, was due to run from 10 to 12 July, featuring acts including Jamz Supernova, Mr Scruff, and Pat Kalla. The festival attracts 2,000 attendees across seven stages.
In an official statement, organisers said: "Everyone at Tonnau Festival is deeply saddened to confirm that a festival attendee tragically passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning following a severe medical emergency. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the attendee's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time."
They added: "From the moment the attendee became unwell, our on-site welfare teams, security, and emergency medical staff responded immediately. Paramedics and welfare personnel did everything they could to provide emergency care, but unfortunately they later died in hospital."
The organisers confirmed the festival was closed to allow emergency services to conduct their work and that they are cooperating fully with the investigation.
