Lucy Halpin, an 18-year-old woman, has died after falling ill at the Tonnau Festival on Anglesey, North Wales, in the early hours of July 11. Emergency services were called to the Carreglwyd Estate in Llanfaethlu at around 1:45 AM following reports of a medical emergency. Despite efforts, she later died in hospital. North Wales Police are treating her death as unexpected, and investigations are ongoing.
Tributes from Colleagues and Friends
Staff at The Breeze Hill Bar, Eatery and Hotel, where Lucy worked, expressed their grief in a statement: "It has been a very sad week at The Breeze Hill. A broken pub full of broken hearts. Our wonderful Lucy was taken away from us last Friday, just a few weeks following her 18th Birthday." They described her as "caring, funny, clever and always smiling" and noted that she was "exceptionally good at looking after our customers." The pub emphasized that Lucy was not just staff but "a member of our extended family."
Fundraising Appeal
Friends of Lucy launched a GoFundMe page to support her family, with donations aimed at giving her "the best send-off she deserves." In a tribute, they wrote: "Anyone who knew Lucy would know she was kind, caring and a good friend. Everyone around her knew how bright and funny she was. She lit up every room she walked into and put a smile on everyone's face without fail." The group added that she was "tragically taken away from us too soon" and that "she will be carried in all our lives with love and will be deeply missed."
Festival Cancellation and Police Statement
Tonnau Festival, which was scheduled to run from July 10 to 12, was cancelled following the incident. Organisers said: "Everyone at Tonnau Festival is deeply saddened to confirm that a festival attendee tragically passed away in the early hours of Saturday morning following a severe medical emergency." They noted that on-site welfare teams and emergency medical staff responded immediately, but the attendee later died in hospital. The festival was closed to allow emergency services and local authorities to conduct their work.
Detective Inspector Iolo Edwards of North Wales Police stated: "Our thoughts remain with the woman's family and loved ones at this difficult time. Community Response
The Breeze Hill Bar also announced plans to host a Memorial Event in the near future, in consultation with Lucy's family and friends. Cash donations are being accepted at the venue. The pub called on the community to help "smash through the target total" of the GoFundMe campaign. Lucy's death has deeply affected those who knew her, with the pub describing her as "like a glue between them, a magical bond."
