Tributes are pouring in for a young police officer who has died after being seriously injured while attending a road traffic collision. Northumbria Police's Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine paid tribute to PC Jess Turnbull, 19, who died on Wednesday, saying she made the 'ultimate sacrifice' to keep communities safe.

The officer was allegedly hit by a car while responding to a collision on the A189 in Cramlington, Northumberland, on Monday night. The vehicle that struck the officer was not connected to the original crash.
