Convicted murderer Simon Levy has pleaded not guilty to assaulting a prison officer. The 41-year-old appeared via video link from Belmarsh jail at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London, where Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram heard brief details of the allegations.
Allegations of Pen Stabbing and Strangulation
Levy is alleged to have stabbed the prison officer with a pen and attempted to strangle him during a meeting on 18th February at the maximum security prison. The court was told that Levy admitted being in the same room as the prison officer but denied assaulting him.
He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and intentional suffocation. Speaking to plead not guilty to both charges, Levy also confirmed his name and address. Jason Lartey, defending, said his client denied carrying out the attack.
Case Sent to Crown Court
The case was sent to crown court for trial and adjourned until September at the Inner London Crown Court.
Last week Levy was told he will die behind bars after being handed a rare whole life term for murdering two women and raping a third. He killed 53-year-old grandmother Carmenza Valencia-Trujillo in March 2025 and 39-year-old mum-of-four Sheryl Wilkins five months later, and left a third victim, who survived, for dead.
