A serious road traffic collision has led to the closure of a major road in Northumberland. Northumbria Police confirmed that the incident occurred overnight on the A189 Spine Road, with the first reports emerging at around 2:30pm. Traffic cameras showed multiple police vehicles at the scene.
Road Closure Details
The A189 Spine Road remains closed in both directions between the A19 at Moor Farm Roundabout and Laverock Hall Road. Traffic is backing up on the A19 in both directions and extending to Blyth on the Spine Road. Motorists are advised to follow local diversions and seek alternative routes, especially during rush hour.
Police Statement
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "We are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the A189 Spine Road in Cramlington, Northumberland. A section of the road is closed in both directions between Moor Farm Roundabout to Laverock Hall Road. This is expected to remain in place for some time."
The spokesperson added: "Motorists are advised to follow the local diversions which have been put in place, and seek alternative routes where possible – especially during rush hour traffic. Enquiries at the scene remain ongoing and more information will be shared in due course."
