Pub worker named after fatal Radcliffe HGV collision

Tributes have been paid to a popular long-standing pub worker who died after being hit by a lorry in Radcliffe. Pedestrian Jacqueline Farquhar, known as Jackie, was struck by an HGV on Church Street West in the Bury town on Tuesday afternoon (October 6).

Emergency services rushed to the scene. The 56-year-old - whose maiden name is understood to be Middleton and who was also said to be known by some by the surname Murray - could not be saved and died at the scene.

Community tributes

Moving tributes have now been paid to Ms Farquhar, who worked at the Bridge Tavern on Blackburn Street in Radcliffe on and off for around 20 years. She had stopped working there in August but remained a regular and much-loved presence at the pub, the pub's current landlady, Amy Caufield, said.

She told the Manchester Evening News: "Jackie was a truly treasured part of our lives, the heart of the pub and the warmth behind so many of our happiest moments. She gave so much of herself to everyone — always helping, always caring, always showing up.

"She will be missed more than we can ever express. Every pool night, every celebration, every gathering was made better because Jackie was there, cooking with love and bringing us together. Her legacy is kindness, and it will live on in all of us."

Police appeal

Katrina Seddon said: "From myself and the whole of Radcliffe, the community she served for many years with food, beverages, love, care, and compassion, all our thoughts and love go out to her children, family, and friends.

"She was loved by so many and is going to be sadly missed by many, many people of the community, and most of all her children and family R.I.P Jackie, from the Radcliffe community."

A large number of tributes have also been paid on social media. One woman said: "R.i.p my friend, you will be so missed by myself and the Radcliffe community, such a lovely lady taken too soon! Rest easy Jackie!" Another said: "Rip beautiful lady, heart of gold so unfair, thinking of your family and many friends xxx"

A third said she had a 'heart of gold' and was 'always happy and fun to be around.' "Rest in peace, Jackie," she said. "Such a tragic accident. Thinking of your family and work family, you was loved by many."

An inquest into Ms Farquhar's death is due to be opened at Rochdale Coroner's Court later this week.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said following the collision that no arrests were made and enquiries were 'ongoing.' They have appealed for any witnesses or anyone with CCTV, dashcam or doorbell camera footage that could help officers to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to call GMP on 101, or use the LiveChat function on their website, quoting log number 2299 of October 6. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
