A 19-year-old police officer has tragically died in the line of duty following a collision while attending an incident in Northumberland. PC Jess Turnbull was seriously injured, but an update from Northumbria Police has confirmed that she has tragically died.
Details of the Incident
Officers were called to a crash on the A189 Spine Road in Cramlington at around 11:10 PM on Monday night. While police were at the scene, a black Mercedes crashed into a marked police car. The driver of the Mercedes, a 73-year-old man, was arrested following the incident.
Investigation Underway
Officers from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit have launched an investigation. Northumbria Police stated: "A police officer has tragically died in the line of duty after a collision in Northumberland. PC Jess Turnbull was responding to a collision which occurred on the A189 Spine Road in Cramlington at about 11:10 PM on Monday."
The force is appealing for witnesses: "We're keen to hear from any witnesses who were travelling in the area of the A189 Spine Road in Cramlington at about 11:10 PM on Monday."
