Vincent Chan, 45, has admitted 30 additional sexual offences, including upskirting of children, bringing the total number of offences he has confessed to 56. The paedophile had previously passed vetting to work at a London primary school and a nursery, where he abused toddlers during naptime.
Chan appeared at Highbury Magistrates' Court on Thursday to plead guilty to the new charges, which involve 16 further victims, 10 of whom were children. The offences include 12 counts of making indecent images of children, one count of sexual assault, 11 counts of voyeurism, and six counts of outraging public decency.
The Metropolitan Police revealed that Chan placed covert cameras in his home to record people changing and sexually assaulted a sleeping woman. He also filmed a schoolgirl from under a classroom table in 2011. Detectives have seized 69 devices containing approximately 25,000 indecent images.
Chan worked as a teaching assistant at a north London primary school from 2007 to 2017 before joining the Bright Horizons nursery chain. He is also believed to have worked as a children's karate instructor. Police said he sought positions of trust to carry out abuse that was 'shocking' in scale.
Parents of children at the Bright Horizons nursery expressed outrage, stating: 'We are sickened to learn that Chan committed appalling offences... Safeguarding is meant to protect children, and when it fails, accountability cannot stop with one individual.'
Chan is due to be sentenced next month for all 56 offences and faces a likely life sentence. Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford described him as 'a dangerous and predatory individual' who exploited trust for over a decade.
