Officers from Northumbria Police remain at the scene, and the road closure is expected to stay in place for some time. A police spokesperson said: 'We are currently at the scene of a serious road traffic collision on the A189 Spine Road in the Cramlington area of Northumberland. A section of the road is closed in both directions between Moor Farm Roundabout to Laverock Hall Road, and this is expected to remain in place for some time.' Motorists are advised to follow local diversions and seek alternative routes, especially during rush hour.
Traffic Impact and Diversions
Traffic cameras show heavy congestion on diversion routes, particularly the A192, which is experiencing significant delays. The northbound A19 is also affected, with delays of up to 30 minutes between the A191 and the A189 junction. Normal traffic conditions are expected to resume between 08:15 and 08:30, according to Traffic England.
The Moor Farm Roundabout is a known rush hour hotspot, and delays are likely to worsen as the morning progresses. Drivers are urged to plan ahead and avoid the area if possible.
