A motorcyclist was taken to hospital after coming off their bike on Beweshill Lane in Blaydon, Gateshead. Police, firefighters and paramedics responded to the reported collision shortly before 6pm on Wednesday.
Emergency response and injuries
The rider was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital with injuries not believed to be serious. Two cars then collided while passing the accident, which occurred near Stargate Lane and Lead Road. Two people were treated by paramedics and discharged at the scene.
The road was closed for a short period before later reopening. Northumbria Police said they received a call about a road traffic collision on Beweshill Lane shortly before 6pm and confirmed a motorcycle rider had reportedly come off their bike.
Ambulance and fire service statements
The North East Ambulance Service (NEAS) sent two ambulances to the scene. A spokesperson for the NEAS said: "We received a call at 5.48pm on Wednesday 7 October to reports of a road traffic incident on the crossroads of Beweshill Lane in Blaydon, Gateshead."
The spokesperson added: "We dispatched two ambulance crews, a clinical team leader, and one crew from our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene. Two patients were treated and discharged on-scene, and one additional patient was taken to the Queen Elizabeth hospital in Gateshead for further treatment."
Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said they were called at 5.56pm on Wednesday and sent three fire engines to the scene. They left the area just after 7pm.
