The carriageway is shut between Junction 3 (A34 Kingsway) and Junction 7 (A56 Chester Road, Stretford). Traffic is being held between J5 and J6, with trapped vehicles being diverted off at J5.

National Highways reported delays of 30 minutes on approach, with around 3 miles of congestion. Traffic monitoring service Inrix noted queues stretching past J1 (Stockport Pyramid), with slowdowns on the opposite carriageway due to onlookers.
