Hamburg Airport is in chaos following a police incident that led to the evacuation of the airside area and the cancellation of all departures. According to local news reports, passengers who had already boarded planes were forced to disembark as German police and emergency services responded to the situation.
Evacuation and Flight Cancellations
The airport operator confirmed that all departures have been temporarily suspended. Passengers in the airside section, past security checks, were evacuated, while those on aircraft were also removed. The German Federal Police stated that the security area is currently under investigation.
Chaos at the Terminal
German outlet Bild reported chaos at the terminal, with loudspeaker announcements informing passengers that no departures are possible. Flight delays of up to three hours are being displayed on information boards, according to local media. Several investigators have searched a lounge, and customs officers are involved in the large-scale operation. Fire crews are on standby in front of Terminal 1 and at Airport Plaza.
It remains unclear how long the closure will last. Authorities are continuing their investigation, and further updates are expected as the situation develops.
