Girl, 9, dies in Highlands two-car crash; two injured

A nine-year-old girl has died following a two-car crash in the Highlands. Two other people were taken to hospital. The collision happened on the A813 between Drumnadrochit and Cannich, west of Loch Ness, on the evening of Wednesday, October 7.

Emergency response and casualties

Emergency crews, including an air ambulance, attended the scene. The alarm was raised at around 5.30pm following reports of a collision involving a Volkswagen Polo and a Ford Ranger. The girl, who was a rear passenger in the Polo, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and front passenger of the vehicle were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment. The extent of their injuries is not yet known. Officers closed the road for seven hours while enquiries continued. Police Scotland confirmed that their investigation is ongoing.

Witness appeal

Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses to come forward to assist with their probe. Sergeant Kate Finlayson said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the girl who died, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or the vehicles prior to contact us. I would also ask anyone who was in the area and who may have dashcam footage that could assist to please get in touch.”
