Girl, 9, dies in A831 crash as road shut for seven hours

A nine-year-old girl has died following a two-vehicle crash in Scotland. The incident involved a Volkswagen Polo and a Ford Ranger on the A831 between Drumnadrochit and Cannich.

Police Scotland were alerted at around 5.30pm on Wednesday, October 7. Emergency services, including an air ambulance, attended the scene.

The girl, who was a rear passenger in the VW Polo, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the VW Polo and the front-seat passenger were taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment.

Police appeal for witnesses

Sergeant Kate Finlayson said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the girl who died, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances. I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or the vehicles prior to contact us."

She added: "I would also ask anyone who was in the area and who may have dashcam footage that could assist to please get in touch."

The A831 remained closed for seven hours while investigations were conducted.
