Four men have died following a collision in Huyton early on July 24. Merseyside Police were called to Liverpool Road shortly before 2am after a black Seat Cupra left the carriageway and struck a lamppost while travelling from Liverpool towards Knowsley.
Victims and response
Two men aged 23, and two others aged 24 and 26, were declared dead at the scene. Their families have been notified and are receiving support from specially-trained officers. A 27-year-old passenger was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.
A police cordon is in place. Liverpool Road and East Prescot Road remain shut, with the latter closed in both directions from Finch Lane to Princess Drive. The closures are expected to last throughout the weekend.
Investigation and drone restrictions
Superintendent Paul Holden said: "First and foremost our thoughts are with the family of the four men who sadly lost their lives following the collision in the early hours of this morning. Their families have been informed and are being supported by our specially trained family liaison officers."
He added: "This is a truly devastating moment for their families and loved ones, and it is now our priority to get answers for them on how the collision occurred."
A temporary no-fly zone for drones has been established above Liverpool Road under article 239 of the Air Navigation Order 2016. No drones are permitted within the restricted area without prior authorisation. Offenders face prosecution and seizure of equipment. Merseyside Police Drones, air ambulances, Fire Service Drones and NPAS are exempt.
