Three boys riding a stolen moped were taken to hospital after colliding with a police car in Wythenshawe. The incident occurred on Poundswick Lane, near Broadoak Road, at approximately 3.45pm on Monday (August 3).
Arrests and injuries
The boys, aged between 14 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of going equipped and theft of a motor vehicle. One has since been discharged from hospital, while the other two remain for further treatment.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) stated that officers were patrolling at low speed when their vehicle collided with the moped, which was travelling in the opposite direction. Further enquiries established the moped had been stolen.
Investigation and referral
In line with force policy, the incident has been referred to the Professional Standards Directorate, which has made a referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
A GMP spokesperson said: "An investigation is ongoing following a collision between a police car and a moped shortly after 3.45pm on Monday 4 August 2026. Officers were patrolling at low speed around Broadoak Park, Wythenshawe, when their vehicle collided with a moped travelling in the opposite direction."
