Armed officers were called to Dean Road in Kilmarnock at 4.30am on Friday, July 31, following reports of a man seen with a firearm. Both uniformed and armed officers attended a property on the street, and a 30-year-old man was subsequently arrested and charged in connection with the incident.
A BB gun was recovered at the scene. The man is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, August 3.
Emergency response on Dean Road
More than seven police vehicles and a fire appliance descended on the residential area. Dramatic images taken by shocked residents showed a major emergency response, with a number of properties taped off while uniformed officers stood guard. Dozens of marked police vans and blue-lit fire engines were spotted on the road, and fire crews were also called to assist.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 4.30am on Friday, 31 July, 2026, we were called to a report of a man seen in possession of what appeared to be a firearm in Dean Road, Kilmarnock. Officers attended a property and a 30-year-old man was later arrested and charged in connection. A BB gun was recovered. He is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Monday, 3 August, 2026. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal."
