Armed police were called to the scene of a robbery in Walton last week after a suspect pretended to have a gun. The incident was reported at around 5.50pm on Saturday, August 22, when an 18-year-old was threatened by two men on Broadway.
The victim was punched and had his electric bike taken. One of the suspects reportedly pretended to have a firearm before fleeing the scene.
Two arrests made
Following enquiries, two men were arrested. A 39-year-old man from Old Swan and a 23-year-old man from Norris Green were both arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of a class B controlled drug (cannabis).
The 39-year-old remains in custody for questioning, while the 23-year-old has been conditionally bailed. The stolen bike has been seized for forensic examination and returned to its owner.
Police response
Chief Inspector Steve Robinson said: “While uninjured, the victim in this case was left shaken by this ordeal. We have made two swift arrests following the incident, and our enquiries continue.
“We will never tolerate people putting others in fear of serious violence on our streets, and taking property that does not belong to them.
“When such incidents are reported, we will use all the tools at our disposal to ensure offenders are brought to justice and stolen goods returned to their rightful owners.”
