Thirteen Nissan Juke cars were reported stolen across the Caerphilly borough in a single 24-hour period, prompting a warning from Gwent Police. The force said on Friday that officers are investigating a number of car thefts that have taken place in the area, with 13 Nissan Juke cars reported stolen so far.
Keyless entry under scrutiny
Thieves are known to often target the Nissan Juke, a crossover SUV. One of its variants, the Tekna, was the UK's most stolen car in the first six months of this year, with some 197 thefts reported according to data from the DVLA. The data was analysed by Jake Lambert from Tempcover, who said the Tekna's high-spec trim includes keyless entry and push-button start as standard, leaving it exposed to relay attacks where thieves intercept fob signals to bypass the immobiliser.
The Nissan Juke Tekna was also a big draw for thieves last year. In the first six months of 2025, it was in fifth place with 165 thefts.
Police advice for owners
Patrols have increased in the area, but police asked residents to be "vigilant". Gwent Police said that if you have a relevant Nissan Juke, or any keyless vehicle, you should consider the following advice:
- Always lock your vehicle, whether at home or out and about
- Keys and ignition fobs should be kept safe and out of sight and reach, including from windows or doors
- Consider investing in a Faraday Box or bag which shield key fobs from being 'hacked' or copied from outside your home
- Place the car somewhere it can't be easily driven from, such as behind a second car in your household
- Consider using a steering wheel lock, immobiliser, or tracking device
- Consider devices such as home CCTV, video doorbells and security lighting or motion-activated solar lights
