A 49-year-old man from Liverpool has been arrested after police found a kilo bag of cocaine hidden behind a wall in Woolton. The arrest followed a stop and search on Sefton Street at around 1.40pm on Wednesday (October 7), when officers stopped a man who was on his mobile phone while driving a Land Rover.
Cash and drugs found during search
Officers searched the car and found around £15,000 in cash inside. The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of criminal property and drug driving. A police search was then carried out at an address in Woolton, where officers found a safe hidden behind a wall containing a kilo bag of cocaine. Officers also found a knuckle duster and a large amount of cryptocurrency seized online from the Cyber Crime Unit.
Further arrest and police comment
The man was further arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply a Class A drug. He remains in police custody, where he will be questioned by detectives. The stop and search was carried out as part of high-visibility policing activity to improve road safety and proactively tackle criminality.
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Stratton said: “This property was used to conceal a kilo bag of cocaine that could have caused serious harm in our community.
“This police activity was about responding to the concerns of local residents while maintaining a strong, visible policing presence and proactively tackling criminality across the area. The results demonstrate the range of action being taken, from addressing the issues that matter to our communities through to disrupting more serious criminality.
“Those who are involved in such drugs offences have no thought for anyone other than themselves, and their criminal intent and greed. Therefore, If you know anyone who is storing drugs in your area please report it to us.”
