An 18-year-old man, George Gaffney, died in a single-vehicle crash in Cheshire when the car he was travelling in struck a tree. The incident occurred on Holmes Chapel Road in Allostock, near Northwich, at approximately 9:40 pm on Sunday, July 5.
Crash Details and Emergency Response
Emergency services, including police, fire crews, and paramedics, attended the scene. The road was cordoned off while officers carried out initial inquiries. The grey Vauxhall Corsa had collided with a tree, and George Gaffney, who was the front seat passenger, suffered catastrophic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, also an 18-year-old man from Davenham, sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Stoke Hospital, where his condition is described as critical. A rear seat passenger, a 17-year-old boy from Northwich, was also injured in the crash.
Family Tribute to George Gaffney
George's family paid tribute to him, describing him as a 'fantastic son' who was well-loved in the Northwich community. He had recently completed his A levels at Sir John Deanes College and was looking forward to starting a career in business finance. The family stated: 'During his short life he touched so many lives with his personality and charm, and he will be greatly remembered by all those who knew him.'
Police Investigation and Appeal
Detective Sergeant Iain Condliffe, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: 'This was a tragic incident and as we work to establish the exact circumstances of what happened, we are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch with us.' He specifically requested dashcam footage or any other information that could aid the investigation.
