Teen Died in Lorry Crash on Way Home from College

An 18-year-old man died in a crash involving a lorry on his way home from college, an inquest opening has heard. James Andrew Douglas McFadden was driving home from Cardiff on May 21, 2026, when the incident happened on the A468 in Caerphilly at around 11.25pm.

Crash Details

An inquest opening held in Newport on Monday heard that the crash involved a Greggs delivery lorry. Coroner Rose Farmer told the hearing that police and ambulance crews attended, but Mr McFadden was sadly pronounced dead at the scene at 11.43pm.

Postmortem and Inquest Timeline

Ms Farmer said a postmortem took place on June 4, 2026, but she is “awaiting the final cause of death in relation to that”. The inquest is expected to take place on March 15, 2027, at 12pm.
