Second arrest in 28-year-old murder probe of teen Donna Keogh
Second arrest in 1998 murder probe of teen Donna Keogh

Cleveland Police have made a second arrest in the suspected murder of Donna Keogh, a 17-year-old who disappeared from Middlesbrough in 1998. A 62-year-old man was detained in the Manchester area and is now being interviewed in police custody.

Arrest follows earlier detention of 64-year-old

In recent months, detectives investigating Donna's disappearance have focused enquiries on the Leeds area. Earlier this year, a 64-year-old man from Leeds was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains on police bail while investigations continue. The second arrest marks a significant development in the 28-year-old case.

Donna's last known movements

Donna was last seen in central Middlesbrough on Tuesday, April 28, 1998, and is known to have travelled to Leeds during that year. Despite extensive searches and a lengthy investigation, her body has never been found. Police strongly suspect she was murdered shortly after she disappeared.

Police appeal for information

Deputy Senior Investigating Officer Detective Inspector Evan Kirtley said: “This morning we have made a second arrest in connection with the murder of Donna Keogh. The man remains in police custody where he will be interviewed. We remain in close contact with Donna’s family and they are being kept fully updated.”

DI Kirtley added: “Donna’s family have lived with unbearable uncertainty for nearly 30 years as they need answers as to what happened to Donna, and we are determined to find those answers for them. Somebody out there knows what happened and could tell us, in order to give the family some comfort and peace, after all this time. If you have information, please tell us. You can contact us directly or report anonymously.”

Reward and family background

A £20,000 reward from Crimestoppers remains in place for information leading to a conviction. Donna grew up in Middlesbrough, attended Newlands and Sacred Heart Schools, and worked at Ormesby Care Home. She dreamed of joining the Royal Navy, following a proud military family tradition. Tragically, her father Brian died in July last year after a relentless quest for answers about his daughter's fate.
