A man has been charged with murder following the death of an 'odd job man' in Chorlton nearly two years ago.

Charge and court appearance

James Martin, 50, of Birch Lane in Longsight, has been charged with murdering William 'Billy' Riddell, 59. Mr Riddell was found dead in the bedroom of his flat in Astbury Avenue in Chorlton on Sunday November 10, 2024.

The suspect is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Thursday July 30, 2026.

Details of the incident

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) was called to the flat at around 11.35pm. Mr Riddell was found dead in a bedroom of a ground floor flat.

Mr Riddell's wife Margaret Brown died in October 2023. She was 61. They had been together for 26 years. He was known in Chorlton as an 'odd job man'.
