Spanish police are investigating a fatal daylight shooting in Barcelona, a popular holiday destination for British tourists. The victim was shot in the head on Carrer de Balmes at around 10am local time (9am UK time).
Details of the Incident
The gunman fled the scene, and a weapon was recovered. The shooting occurred in front of the National Police's DNI office, which issues ID cards and passports. Catalan police, including agents from the Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), have taken charge of the investigation. They have images of the suspect.
Heightened Alert
Barcelona is on high alert ahead of a visit from Pope Leo XIV later today. This incident follows another fatal shooting in the Zona Franca district last Sunday, which police are investigating as a revenge execution linked to drug trafficking.
A law enforcement operation is underway to apprehend the suspect. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward.
