A two-year-old boy described as "happy and bubbly" was found dead in his bed by his mother at the family home in Treorchy, South Wales. Sebastian Karl Griffiths was "happily playing" before being put to bed the previous evening at the house on Bute Street.
Mother found boy unresponsive
The boy slept in a bedroom he shared with his siblings. The next morning, his mother found him unresponsive in his bed. Both parents began CPR, and emergency services arrived a short time later. Resuscitation attempts were carried out, but the boy was pronounced dead at the scene on August 3, 2025.
Inquest opened
An inquest has been opened at South Wales Central Coroner's Court to establish the circumstances of the sudden death. The proceedings heard that a pathologist said Sebastian's cause of death could not be ascertained. Coroner Andrew Morse has adjourned the inquest until a date to be fixed to allow for more evidence to be gathered.
Tributes to 'comical and bubbly' boy
A family friend described Sebastian as "bubbly and funny, full of character" in a tribute after his death. His mother, Louise, said: "He was so funny, comical and bubbly. He had just started saying more words."
Louise previously explained that the boy had suffered from high temperature seizures during times of mild illness, but was otherwise healthy and happy. She said: "He was jumping up and down playing in the cot before he went to sleep. That’s what's so shocking. There were no signs that he was unwell or anything."
