Man Charged After Police Pursuit in Wythenshawe

A man has been charged with multiple offences following a police pursuit in Wythenshawe that ended with a vehicle colliding with a tree.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) confirmed that officers pursued a Mercedes along Hollyhedge Road on Tuesday morning (June 16) before the vehicle crashed into a tree on Haveley Road in Benchill. A man was arrested at the scene.

Charges Filed

In an update issued on Wednesday evening, GMP announced that Matthew James Gradwell, 39, of Benchill Road, Wythenshawe, has been charged with nine offences. These include:

  • Escaping from lawful custody
  • Two counts of burglary
  • Three counts of theft
  • Causing serious injury by dangerous driving
  • Driving whilst disqualified
  • Driving without insurance

Gradwell was scheduled to appear before West Cheshire Magistrates Court in Chester on Wednesday.

Authorities have not released further details about the incident or the injuries sustained.
