Two Dead in Lanzarote Crash Involving TUI Tourist Bus

Two adults have died and two others, including a six-year-old boy, were taken to hospital following a head-on collision between a TUI tourist bus and a car on the holiday island of Lanzarote. The crash occurred on the LZ-2 road connecting the resort of Playa Blanca with the town of Yaiza in the southwest of the island.

Details of the Incident

Shocking images from the scene show the mangled wreckage of the car and the badly damaged TUI bus, with its front caved in and windscreen smashed. The deceased were two adults traveling with a young child in the car.

A 36-year-old passenger on the bus was also injured, along with the six-year-old boy, who was initially thought to have been in the car but was later confirmed to be on the bus.

Emergency Response

The alarm was raised shortly before 7:45 p.m. on June 11, prompting local police, the Civil Guard, paramedics, and firefighters to rush to the scene near a Repsol petrol station. Eight passengers were believed to be on the bus along with the driver.

It is not yet clear where the bus was heading when the accident occurred. The two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are investigating whether they were tourists or residents of Lanzarote.

Broader Context

More than 1.5 million British tourists visit the Canary Islands annually, making Britons one of the largest visitor groups. While most holidays pass without incident, a number of serious crashes have raised concerns about transport and infrastructure.

In April, a British pensioner died in a bus crash on La Gomera, and 27 passengers were hospitalized. The bus left the road on a bend and plunged about 100 feet down a ravine. That incident followed a fatal crash in May last year on the same GM-2 road, where a 73-year-old Spanish woman died and 11 others were injured.
