Conwy Council has unveiled a series of proposed Traffic Regulation Orders affecting numerous roads in Llandudno and nearby Craig y Don, including a ban on motorhomes parking overnight along a section of Abbey Road, from West Shore towards the town centre.
Proposed Restrictions and One-Way Scheme
The plans include 'no waiting at any time' restrictions on many roads, a new one-way system for a road off Trinity Avenue, and a taxi rank adjustment on The Parade. The proposals aim to address parking and traffic issues in the popular tourist destination.
Janet Finch-Saunders, Senedd member for Bangor Conwy Môn, expressed concern: "I am extremely concerned by the scale of these proposed restrictions and understand why many residents and businesses are worried about the potential impact they could have on everyday life in Llandudno."
Community Concerns and Consultation
Finch-Saunders added: "While I recognise the need to improve road safety where there is clear evidence, any changes must be proportionate and properly justified. Measures of this scale risk creating unnecessary difficulties for residents, affecting local businesses and making it harder for people to access the town."
She encouraged public participation: "I would encourage everyone affected to take part in the public consultation and ensure their views are heard before any final decisions are made. It is vital that the Council listens carefully to local people and is prepared to reconsider any proposals that do not have community support."
Detailed Restrictions
Among the detailed proposals, 'no waiting at any time' would apply to numerous sections in Craig y Don, including Clarence Road, St Margaret's Drive, and Nant y Gamar Road, among others. In Tudno, restrictions are planned for Council Street West, Atlee Close, and Hospital Road.
In Gogarth, 'no waiting and no loading' restrictions are proposed for Trinity Avenue and St Andrews Avenue. Additionally, an overnight prohibition on motorhomes from midnight to 8am is planned for Abbey Road, between Church Walks and Arvon Avenue, a distance of 495m.
