Tourist in shock after waiter 'spit' request on bill

A Brazilian tourist in Italy said she is "still in shock" after discovering a message on her restaurant receipt that allegedly instructed the chef to "spit" in her food.

Maria Clara was dining with her family at the Victor Lab restaurant in Romagna, Italy, on August 19, according to reports. She ordered a breakfast of scrambled eggs, juice and coffee.

When her food arrived, she noticed the scramble was runny and asked her server if she could have "the eggs a little more cooked." The server allegedly scoffed that they "don't make raw eggs here."

Receipt revealed the message

Clara later noticed a horrifying message on her receipt, which she included in a one-star Google review of the establishment. It read: "This is pissing me off. Burn the eggs and spit in them."

Clara said the 17-year-old server got "very nervous" after the message was flagged with managers. The teen apologized and said it was a joke between him and the chef, and even tried to throw the receipt away, but she threatened to call the police if he did so.

Restaurant apologised and posted video

The restaurant subsequently apologised to Clara under her review, writing: "The behavior you reported was absolutely inappropriate and in no way reflects the values, customer service, and professional standards we strive to ensure every day."

The restaurant also uploaded a video to their TikTok account that appeared to poke fun at the incident, with the owner portraying a demanding customer who orders a dish with "spit."

Clara said: "Sometimes it almost makes you laugh when you watch it, but this isn't a laughing matter. It's serious." She reportedly asked that her last name not be shared as she has received death threats.
