New Brunch Spot Opens in Treorchy
Cloud 9 Coffee & Kitchen, a new coffee shop and brunch spot, has opened its doors in Treorchy, Rhondda, this summer. Located on Stag Square at the former Lanyon's estate agents, the venue offers breakfasts, brunch classics, and lunches, alongside Clifton Coffee. The Mediterranean-inspired interior features cozy two-table seating and handmade family-style tables for larger groups.
Owner's Vision
The man behind Cloud 9, Dafydd Davies, is a 23-year-old plumber from the Rhondda. He saw a gap in the market for a premium-style brunch spot in Treorchy, as locals often traveled to Cardiff or Pontyclun for such experiences. He said: "If I'm not going to do it now, I'm probably never going to do it." He added that the belief that people in the valleys don't want premium food is "not real."
Menu Highlights
The menu includes Italian-style sandwiches, flat iron steak sandwiches, French toast with white chocolate and pistachio, breakfast classics with a twist on dippy egg and soldiers, and homemade banana bread and brownies. The venue plans to expand to evening openings and guest chefs in the future.
Chef and Team
Experienced chef Connor Willis has returned to the Rhondda from Tenby's Town Crier pub to serve as operations manager. He said: "We're just trying to do our own thing and just add something a bit different, a bit more premium but as relaxed and calming and as welcoming as we can."
