An American woman living in the UK with her English husband visited Argos for the first time and summed it up in two words: "So cool." The woman, known as Brit on social media, shared her experience in a video on Instagram.
First Visit to Argos
Brit has been with her English husband, Tom, for 18 years. The couple and their four children lived in the US until earlier this year, when they moved back to the UK. In the video, Brit explained that Tom had taken her and their children to Argos for the very first time.
She said: "I didn't even know this existed, and in the 18 years that Tom and I have been together, he has never brought me here. We're in Argos."
Reaction to the Unique Shopping Model
Tom asked her to sum up what she thought of the shop, and Brit, still processing what she saw, managed only two words: "So cool." She explained that when she first walked in, she was confused because there were no products on display, only rows of touch screens. Tom told her that they used to have physical catalogues that everyone had in their homes.
He compared it to Amazon, but a physical store where you can walk out with the item the same day if it's in stock. Tom added: "I've intentionally never brought Brit into Argos, because it's just an endless screen of 'let's just get stuff'. If you thought next-day Amazon was dangerous, this is immediate Amazon."
Disappointment and Nostalgia
Brit filmed herself looking at items in the digital catalogue but was disappointed to learn that Argos doesn't sell the endless range of products that Amazon does. The magic faded when she found out that while Argos has a small clothing section, it is more geared toward electronics, appliances, and children's toys. After Tom told her she wouldn't find a huge range of handbags, Brit said: "Well, that's less exciting."
Commenters on the video shared nostalgic memories of flipping through the physical catalogue as children and picking out toys for Christmas and birthdays. One person said: "I miss the catalogue. Not the same online." Another added: "My younger son basically learnt to read from the Argos catalogue - he used to tear out the toy section and take it on holiday, highlighting in coloured pens what he wanted for Christmas!" A third wrote: "I live in Canada now, and we don't have anything similar either - I really miss Argos!"
